Next year sees the Centenary of the start of The Great War. On the 4th August 1914 German forces invaded neutral Belgium and triggered the greatest bloodshed in the history of warfare. Loftus Family History Group are in the process of unravelling the names on Loftus War Memorial and hope to be able to tell each man’s story in time for the Centenary.
Loftus Community Forum is in the process of refurbishing parts of the War Memorial, also in time for the Centenary.
If you have any information on The Great War casualties on the Memorial (photos, anecdotes, newspaper clippings etc.) and would care to share them with us then please leave them at the Library, in an envelope for the attention of Cody McKay or Rodney Begg. Or call in on Thursday afternoon between 1:30 and 4:30pm and we’ll be there in person!
In the meantime, click through to The Loftus Family History Group from the menu bar and follow the Lest We Forget link on our website.
